Watson Burton Sponsor Accolade at Duke of Gloucester Awards

Watson Burton is delighted to have shown support for stonemasons at the prestigious Duke of Gloucester Awards ceremony.

The firm recently sponsored the Project Craftsman of the Year award, acknowledging the work of stonemasons who have made a significant contribution to landmark buildings.

The Duke of Gloucester Awards, organised jointly by Stone Federation Great Britain and the Worshipful Company of Masons, is part of The Masons’ Company Craft Awards, held every two years.

The event acknowledges stonemasons who have shown high standards of craftsmanship in their work.

This year saw 100 guests gather at the Mercer Hall to see HRH the Duke of Gloucester present the Project Craftsman of the Year award to Dennis Jones of CWO Ltd, who was described as “quiet, unflappable and accommodating”. Some of the significant contracts Dennis has worked on include Chichester Cathedral, St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, Winchester College and HMS Nesson Portsmouth.

The Project Craftsman of the Year is an accolade for a stonemason with a minimum of five years’ post-qualification experience, who has shown high standards and has a portfolio of projects which illustrate their work.

Mark Lawton said: “As a firm, we are delighted to sponsor the Project Craftsman of the Year award, honouring the fantastic work of the stonemasons. We would like to congratulate all those who produced entries for this award, as the standard of work was extremely high.”
