The graduates have joined our graduate training programme, which provides high level training and a comprehensive introduction to law.
During the course of the two-year programme, the trainees will have the opportunity to work across Watson Burton’s key practice areas, including corporate and commercial, real estate, construction and engineering, professional indemnity insurance, employment and commercial litigation.
The Watson Burton graduate training programme, which receives an extremely high number of applications year on year, covers four six month rotations across the national groups and each trainee will be supported by an experienced mentor.
Sophie Robertson from Northumberland, who undertook an English Language Degree at Newcastle University and an LPC at Northumbria University, Newcastle University graduate Rosie Roof, from Washington, plus Northumbria University graduates Leah Pattison, from Scarborough, and Megan Irons and Matthew Watson - both of whom hail from Huddersfield - all undertook Watson Burton’s vacation programme and have now been awarded training contracts.
The graduates will be joining Kieran Kelly who joined the training programme earlier in the year after also completing Watson Burton’s spring vacation programme in April 2016.
Commenting on the traineeship, Rosie Roof said: “At Watson Burton, you are continually encouraged to grow and develop your abilities. The firm places great emphasis on the importance of traineeships, and is committed to developing the next generation of legal professionals. I’m looking forward to working with Watson Burton’s team of experts to gain even more knowledge of the firm’s work, and the legal profession as whole.”
Megan Irons commented: “I previously worked at Watson Burton as paralegal in the corporate team as well as having worked within the marketing department, this allowed me to get to know the company, its clients, employees and its working culture.
“Watson Burton has a sense community and offers fantastic opportunities – if they see your potential they will develop it and provide you with the skills and tools required for progression. I am therefore thrilled to have been accepted on to the graduate training programme and it will give me experience of other aspects of law such as commercial litigation.”
Matthew Watson said of the training programme: “Watson Burton is renowned nationwide for its high calibre of work – I am therefore very pleased to be a part of its graduate training programme.
“The team here utilise their expertise to support us in our roles – they listen to your opinions and your voice as a trainee is genuinely valued.”
Leah Pattison added: “I am delighted to have been given this opportunity by Watson Burton. You are given an exceptional amount of ‘hands on’ experience and are able to work with a wide range of major clients. I am confident that this level of inclusion and practical work will prove invaluable in my professional development.”
Chris Graham, partner and training principal at Watson Burton, said of the latest round of graduate trainee appointments: “Our graduate training programme forms a pathway for those aspiring to have a successful and rewarding career within the legal sector.
“Many of our partners and senior staff started with us as graduate trainees and their dedication, alongside the breadth of expertise and ‘hands on’ experience they gained during their traineeship, meant they were able to progress within the firm and become specialists in a range of disciplines.
“We’re looking forward to helping Sophie, Rosie, Megan, Kieran, Matthew and Leah progress their careers in law.”
