The Newcastle-headquartered firm nominates a charity each year which will benefit from the fundraising efforts of its staff, who together raised a substantial amount for the charity.
Make-A-Wish UK is a registered charity formed to grant ‘truly magical’ wishes to children and young people, aged between 3 and 17, who are fighting life-threatening conditions. Volunteers are at the heart of the organisation and their kind support has enabled more than 12,000 life-changing wishes to be granted.
The charity states that a wish is a once in a lifetime experience that is a positive distraction from on-going medical treatment and a focus for children living with serious illness whose future maybe uncertain. And in addition it gives time together as a family.
At the start of the fundraising campaign, Make-A-Wish shared a video with Watson Burton to highlight their work and sent a representative of the charity to talk to staff to explain how their support would help children with critical illnesses.
Chris Graham, partner at Watson Burton, said: “Having this understanding of the amazing work of the charity up front, created an emotional connection that has encouraged all of our staff to engage in the fundraising efforts for Make-A-Wish.
“I’m proud that the firm has pulled together to raise such a large amount that will support the charity in granting life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. It has been a very humbling experience for us all”
Carolyn Thornton, Regional Fundraising Manager, Make-A-Wish said: “I was delighted to collect a cheque for an incredible £4,152.85 and personally thank staff at Watson Burton for choosing Make-A-Wish as their Charity Partner.
“Our wishes are about magic, hope, smiles and memories and how amazing is it that staff will make a special wish come true. We cannot add days to a child’s life but we can, with their help, add life to a child’s day.”
