Guy Barr

Guy worked as a broker and underwriter for a national insurance provider before joining the professions and insurance group at Watson Burton. He is an experienced specialist, acting on behalf of insurers in relation to claims against professionals; predominantly solicitors, surveyors, construction professionals and brokers. He  increasingly deals with the higher numbers of claims against surveyors as a result of the difficult property market conditions.

Guy has presented seminars covering many different areas of professional indemnity law and has contributed articles to a range of different publications.

• Assisting in the successful defence of a claim involving a large-scale dispute against a planning professional which went to a four week trial in the High Court
• Achieving a mediated settlement of a multi-party construction dispute concerning the installation of allegedly non-compliant cladding panels to a large industrial unit
• Defending a substantial and complex multi-party civil engineering claim involving allegedly defective piling works
• Successfully defending a claim against engineers relating to defective foundation designs and another substantial construction dispute which involves both policy coverage and technical aspects regarding the design of a multi-site leisure complex
• Assisting as part of a larger team in acting on a multi-party dispute involving allegations of negligence by lenders against a firm of solicitors arising out of the “buy to let” property market
• Obtaining summary judgment against a claimant in a bankruptcy-related claim against solicitors with an order for costs in favour of the solicitors and their insurers
• Resolution of a complex claim against solicitors in relation to alleged negligent trust and estate planning advice
  

Guy builds, restores and plays electric guitars. He is a keen skier.
