Jill is a highly experienced associate who advises on a broad range of commercial cases undertaking work for a range of international companies, PLCs, educational establishments and high net worth individuals.  

With a reputation for providing clear, practical solutions in complex disputes, she has wide experience of managing commercial and contractual disputes. 

Jill also advises on the misuse of confidential information, the enforcement of post-termination restrictions, director’s duties and fraud. 

Additionally, she has a wealth of experience dealing with high-value real estate litigation for clients ranging from utility companies, commercial property developers, national house builders, investors and commercial occupiers:

  • Breaches of lease covenants
  • Opposed and unopposed business tenancy renewals (Landlord and Tenant Act 1954)
  •  Dilapidation claims
  • Trespass

recent experience

  • Advised a Higher Education employer in managing the contractual position in circumstances when a voluntary redundancy package had been agreed with a lecturer however the individual was subsequently found to have used the work of his students (passing it off as his own) in obtaining an external qualification
  • Defending a multi-strand discrimination claim involving vexatious complaints to the Health and Safety Executive and the Ministry of Defence
  • Defending a complex employment tribunal claim involving whistleblowing and securing the return of our client’s confidential information
  • Assisting a plc in implementing changes to its contracts of employment and working practices to reflect the legislative changes relating to the calculation of holiday pay
  • Drafting settlement agreements for senior employees employed by a FTSE 350 Company
  • Acting for a FTSE 350 company in a high value claim for damages for breach of the landlord’s lease covenants. The claim concerns the landlord’s failure to provide adequate mechanical services over a number of years at a Central London skyscraper where our client is the tenant of nine floors. Our client’s annual rent is over £4million and the quantum of the claim exceeds £20million
  • Advising and subsequently issuing proceedings in a High Court case concerning the misuse of our client’s confidential information and customer database. Jill was instructed to pursue two of our client’s former employees who improperly obtained, misused and/or retained our client’s confidential and business information. The claim included an application for an injunction requiring the defendants to (amongst other things) permit an independent IT expert to inspect their personal computers and take images from them where necessary.


Jill loves to cook and particularly enjoys cooking Thai dishes.  Her love of cooking began when she undertook a cooking course in Thailand. Jill travelled around Thailand before joining Watson Burton. She travelled extensively around the country during her trip and returned the following year for a two week holiday over Christmas and the new year.
