We pride ourselves on recruiting, training and retaining high quality staff. We encourage applications from high calibre applicants who can demonstrate that they meet our academic criteria, and who can show that they have a genuine interest in joining Watson Burton LLP. Our detailed selection criteria can be found elsewhere within the "Training Contracts" section of our website, but you may find the following information useful if you are considering applying to us:
We look for people who have an excellent academic record with either a 2:1 or a first from one of the top universities, but academic excellence is not everything. Whilst many of our Trainees have a degree specific to the legal field, we are equally keen to hear from non-law graduates who are high achievers in their own field and who can demonstrate their genuine commitment to a career in law.
The ability of our solicitors to communicate and to work effectively with each other and with clients is one of the essential ingredients in providing an excellent advice service to our clients. We look for prospective trainees to demonstrate their ability to work with others as part of a team. Watson Burton is known for having a friendly working environment: we look for gregarious, bright and cheerful people to join our team and contribute to this culture.
As a leading firm with offices in Newcastle, Leeds and London, we have high numbers of staff born and bred in the North of England. However, we also attract trainees and employees from across the country, and the world, who are attracted to the region and the lifestyle and culture it offers. We aim to provide opportunities to undertake seats in both Leeds and Newcastle offices and travel between offices it to be expected.
We believe in looking after our employees from day one and this includes supporting our trainees. We pay LPC fees. |
